Sunday_May11 A Dubious Start.....

Sunday morning, Mother's day, found us up reasonably early and staring out the window at oncoming bad weather. We turned on The Weather Channel and saw that there were threats of thunderstorms, hail, damaging winds......hey, great riding weather for this group. Rain was already making itself known and the wind had thrown some deck chairs into the hot tubs below us. The horizon was almost not visible and everything was turning grey. The waves were larger and breaking further out in the ocean. But hey....we are on vacation and life is good.

It was discovered that we had neglected to acquire any breakfast food during our two trips to the Wal-Mart. That is, unless you consider beer to be breakfast food.

Some of us used the down time to call mothers and wives and just lounge around.

Rick ran down to the airport and rented a Dodge van so that we could venture out into the elements and forage for food so as not to perish from starvation at the resort. No one seemed to remember that the resort restaurant has a breakfast bar!

Jeff rode Deb's bike to Barefoot Landing and left it to have new handlebars installed. We stayed close by and had lunch at Dick's Last Resort. This is one of those "abuse" restaurants where their treating you like crap actually encourages you to leave a larger tip. They lived up to their reputation of being abusive. They threw napkins, straws, and food at us while talking trash. It was like a flashback to my first marriage. One of their claims to fame is making large paper hats with irreverent sayings on them and placing them on customer's heads. Some of these are not appropriate for the blog.

We really did have a great time at lunch with our expanding group. We now consist of me (George), Mark, Matt, Jeff, Deb, Steve, Robin (Steve's wife who arrived late last night), Rick (of Nebraska motorcycle crash fame), Mark (Rick's son), and Tanya (Rick's Son's fiance). We are now a group of 10.

After retrieving Deb's motorcycle we all rode back down to the Harley shop on Rt 17 and checked out the places that we missed before. Deb, Jeff, and I bought Aussie hats. Deb said that we had to.....

This is an example of some of the shaggy characters that we have run into at bike week!

Dinner was back up the road at Crabby Mike's......another seafood buffet. I believe that I can claim responsibility for the extinction of at least two species.

From dinner, Mark, Jeff, Deb, and I went back the resort to languish in the hot tub and consume adult beverages. The rest of the crew went to the SB&B to see what kind of stuff goes on down there at night.

Everyone made it home safe and sound. That makes for a good day.
